I am generally for lower taxes  but only if that means less government spending.  We have run deficits that are far too large to continue but perhaps the worst place to cut is from Social Security.  Social Security already provides more benefits that we can pay for.  I get the politics of this move but it is a bad idea economically unless it acts as a catalyst to reduce Social Security benefits. It would be nice to find more thoughtful leaders but perhaps the atmosphere in Washington is so poisoned that this is impossible.  One solution might be to simply vote every incumbent out at the next election.  If we did it would send a powerful message to both our surviving and new officials that pandering and posturing in lieu of common sense and leadership will not be tolerated.
